Generally most people require 6-8 hours sleep at night. Insufficient rest can lead to a host of health problems, like fatigue, difficulty in concentrating, irritability, lacklustre skin, etc.

Studies have indicated that a positive attitude or outlook towards life can enhance the body’s immune defence. The mind is a powerful asset and we need to keep it healthy too. Learning to negotiate the daily changes and interactions in life will help us to cope up with everyday stress.

Good nutrition translates into good health and a high level of energy. It is the combination of eating the right food in variety, balance and moderation ensures that the nutrient and energy requirements of your body are met with minimal excesses. Our body requires over 40 different nutrients, a balance of carbohydrates, proteins, fat, vitamins and minerals every day. It is also important to eat regular meals and balance your food choices in right proportion. Drinking 8 glass of water will probably be the best thing you can do for your body.

WHAT IS BALANCED DIET?

Five food groups provide us with most of nutrients and energy we need.


Group One:
Wheat, rice and cereals, which are major sources of starch, carbohydrates, fibre and vitamin-B.
6 to 8 servings to be eaten daily


Group Two:
Fruits and vegetables, which are rich sources of several vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates and fibre.
4 to 5 servings to be eaten daily

Group Three:
Meat, fish, poultry and pulses which primarily provide the body with protein, vitamin B12, zinc and iron
2 to 4 servings to be eaten daily

Group Four:
Dairy products, high in proteins, calcium and several essential vitamins – A, B2, B6, B12 and D
2 to 4 servings to be eaten daily

Group Five:
Fats, oils and sugar are the principal sources of energy for our body.
